Pita/Pizza/Pretzel/Bread Sticks

I was given this recipe from a email recipe exchange! I didn't get any pictures, but I made the Pizza dough and it turned out awesome!!!
The bread sticks were really great too (so I heard!)!!
This recipe is quick and versatile!
Thanks for sharing and so glad to have another yummy bread recipe!

Pita/pizza/pretzel/ bread sticks

2 C. Warm Water
1 1/2 Tbsp. Yeast
2 Tbsp Sugar
2 tsp. salt
4-5 cups flour

Mix together until you have a sticky dough that pulls away from the side of the bowl. Let rise 1 hr. (this is the only rise that you have to do with this recipe)

Pitas: Roll small balls of dough into flat circles (about 8 inches), place in preheated oven (about 450) on a hot cookie sheet or baking stone. Bake for 3-5 min, they should puff up in the center, if they don't they work great to fold over.

Pizza: Roll out and top with your favorite pizza toppings, bake 20-25 min at 400 degrees or until bottom is crisp.

pretzels: Roll into long, thin ropes and fold over to make pretzel shape. Dip in water mixture that is about 1 cup water, 2 tsp baking soda , sprinkle with salt and bake at 400 for about 10 min. Brush with butter and add more coarse salt if desired.

Bread sticks: Roll into 2 rectangles. Place on cookie sheet, brush with butter, garlic, salt, Parmesan cheese, and anything else you want. Cut in to strips. Bake at 400 for 20 or so min. Brush generously with melted butter again after removing from oven. Serve warm. :)

Pizza Sauce

I did a little canning on Friday and made pizza sauce with some tomatoes I had!
I am taking it on good recommendation that this is great sauce, since I haven't yet tried it!
But I trust the advice and have made 12 pints already and may do a few more later!

French Bread Pizza

With Summer here and Baseball, T-Ball and all other sorts of activities going on, quick and easy meals become a necessity! This is one my mom used to make when we were kids and it is simple and quick!

French Bread Pizza
  • 1 loaf french bread (I used a loaf I had made for dinner a few nights ago)
  • pizza sauce (great homemade recipe on this site!)
  • mozzarella cheese
  • pizza toppings

Preheat your oven to 475 degrees. Cut your french bread loaf in half lengthwise. Place on a cookie sheet.

Then place your sauce, cheese and toppings. Your kids can help with this too!

Bake for 15-20 minutes or until browned the way you like!

Bread Sticks and Pizza Dough

I found this recipe the other day and had to try it! I have been searching for the perfect or better than what I have found recipe for pizza crust! I like the idea of making your own, but have yet to find the recipe that is good enough to make on your own!
I think I may have found that recipe! You can use this recipe for breadsticks or pizza dough. I got 2 pizzas from this recipe, and had contemplated making one pizza and one batch of breadsticks! I ended up with 2 pizzas so we could have pepperoni and hawaiian. This pizza was eaten and even the leftovers are gone! The crust didn't get mushy and was crispy and yummy. I found a trick that was shared with the recipe that totally helped!
So if you are looking for a good pizza dough, try this one and tell me what you think!!
Bread Sticks and Pizza Dough
from OurBestBites.com
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tbsp yeast
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3-4 1/2 cups flour

In a large bowl (mixer bowl) combine water, sugar and yeast. Let stand for 10 minutes or until yeast is bubbly.

Add salt and stir. Add 1 1/2 cups flour and mix well. Gradually add more flour (usually between 3-4 cups) until dough starts to pull away from the sides of the bowl and it barely sticks to your finger.

Spray a glass or metal bowl with cooking spray and place dough in the bowl. Cover and allow to rise for 45 minutes or until doubled in bulk.

Remove from bowl and place on a lightly floured surface.

For Pizza dough: Divide the dough into 2 equal parts (this part also depends on the size of your pan). Roll the dough out to fit the pizza pan. Next here is the part I learned. She said on one of her pizza posts that in order to get that good pizza parlor taste and to not end up with soggy or not so good crust, drizzle some olive oil on the top of the dough and then sprinkle garlic salt on top.

Next add your sauce and toppings! I think this made a huge difference from OK crust to really good crust! I cooked mine at 425 for 15-20 minutes or so, I waited till my crust was good and browned!

For Bread Sticks: Spray a baking sheet with cooking spray. Roll into a rectangle and cut into 12 strips with a pizza cutter.

Roll out each piece of dough into a snake and then drape over your forefinger and twist the dough. Place on baking sheet and repeat with remaining 11 pieces of dough. Try to space them evenly, but its okay if they're close; pulling apart hot bread is one of life's greatest pleasures!

Cover pan and allow dough to rise for another 30 minutes. When there's about 15 minutes to go, preheat your oven to 425. When done rising, bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown. Rub some butter on top of the breadsticks (just put a ziploc bag on your hand, grab some softened butter, and have at it!) and sprinkle with garlic bread seasoning or the powdery parmesan cheese in a can and garlic salt. Or you could sprinkle with cinnamon sugar!

Hot Pockets

I found this recipe on http://www.everydayfoodstorage.net/! I love her site, because she shows you how to use your food storage in all your meals! She makes it look so simple, and this one definitely was simple! Pick whatever you want inside, and you have an instant hot pocket! We made pizza pockets and the kids loved them! This recipe may make only 6, but they were bigger than say the store bought ones! It was a quick easy meal, and you could definitely make more if you made them smaller!
Hot Pocket Dough- makes six 6 inch pockets

from Everydayfoodstorage

1 C. Luke Warm Water2 T. Olive Oil or Canola Oil
1 t. Sugar
1/2 t. Salt
3 C. Flour (I usually do Half all-purpose and half whole wheat or all whole wheat flour)
1 1/2 t. Yeast
Dough by hand:Dissolve Yeast in warm water. Add Oil, Sugar, and salt. Slowly mix in flour and knead. Cover and let rise for 45 minutes.
Dough in Bread Machine: (this is my favorite because you can throw all the ingredients in and set the dough cycle and get some other things done while it’s doing the work for you!)
Add ingredients in order your bread machine specifys (for example: for mine I need to add the liquid first, then dry ingredients, and then form a well and pour my yeast in). You don’t want your dough to raise for more than one hour. Most bread machine dough cycles will “beat” down the dough and you’ll want to take the dough out before it does that. Consult your users manual for timing and instructions on how to put the ingredients in.

1. Pre-heat oven to 375
2. When dough is ready, separate it in to 6 portions. If you want to be really exact, you can weigh the dough. I usually just eye ball it.
3. Using a rolling pin, roll out dough to 1/8 inch thick circles.
4. Let dough rest for 5 minutes.
5. Put 1/4-1/2 cup worth of filling. If you’re making all the same kind of hot pockets mix all your filling items together and use a scoop to fill the pockets. (pizza pockets, ham and cheese, chicken and other various pizza and hot sandwich fillings)
6. Fold dough in half over the filling and clamp edges with fork.
7. You can brush the tops with an egg white wash (1 egg white beaten with 1-2 T. water) if you want them to look really professional! (I usually don’t because I think they look delicious with out the hassle. Besides I can’t ever figure out anything to use that one egg yolk in and I hate to waste it!)
8. Bake for 15-20 minutes at 375.

Pepperoni Bread

I found this from the Rhodes site! It even gives you video instructions if you want
This was very simple and an alternative to making pizza!
We dipped our bread in pizza sauce and ranch!
_________________________
Pepperoni Bread
Rhodes
12 Rhodes dinner rolls or 1 loaf rhodes bread dough, thawed and risen (I used one of my basic roll doughs instead)
2 tbsp butter, melted
1/4 tsp oregano
1/2 tsp parsley flakes
1/4 tsp seasoned salt
4 ounces pepperoni slices
1 cup grated mozzarella cheese
______________________
Spray counter lightly with non-stick cooking spray. Roll loaf or combined dinner rolls into a 12x18 inch rectangle. Combine butter with seasonings. Brush mixture on dough, reserving a small amount to brush on top later. Arrange pepperoni on top of seasoning mixture and sprinkle with cheese. Beginning with a long side, roll up dough jelly roll style. Tuck ends under and place, seam side down, on a large sprayed baking sheet. Using a sharp serrated knife cut several vents in the top. Brush with reserved seasoning mixture. Cover with sprayed plastic wrap and let rise for 30 minutes.
Remove wrap and bake at 350 for 20-25 minutes!
